El Fondo Monetario Internacional estima que Latinoamérica crezca 1.6% en 2020 y 2.3% en 2021, impulsado por un aumento gradual del crecimiento global.

El Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) sumó el posible efecto económico por el tema del coronavirus a su lista de riesgos que podrían llevar a la baja sus proyecciones sobre el crecimiento de la economía global, señaló este miércoles Alejandro Werner, director del Departamento de Análisis del Hemisferio Occidental del organismo.

“Se pudiesen llegar a materializar efectos en la economía mundial por el tema del coronavirus en China”, reiteró Werner.

Expuso que tomando como base algunos fenómenos similares del pasado en el escenario central de la mayoría de los analistas económicos, los efectos que se dieron en algunos trimestres fueron compensados en los posteriores; sin embargo, es un riesgo.

“Claramente es un riesgo que vamos a tener que estar monitoreando muy de cerca para la economía internacional”, dijo durante la conferencia de prensa transmitida desde Washington sobre las perspectivas económicas de América Latina.

El FMI estima que América Latina crezca 1.6 por ciento en 2020 y 2.3 por ciento en 2021, impulsado por un aumento gradual del crecimiento global y de los precios de las materias primas en apoyo de la política monetaria, así como de una menor incertidumbre en torno a las políticas económicas y una recuperación paulatina de las economías estresadas.

Sin embargo, advirtió sobre los riesgos a la baja como las tensiones sociales, que podrían extenderse a otros países en la región, la incertidumbre acerca de las políticas económicas podría aumentar aún más debido al aumento de las tensiones sociales, y añadió el posible efecto económico del coronavirus en el desempeño del PIB mundial.
