El gobierno de Estados Unidos anunció este lunes más medidas para reforzar la seguridad en la frontera sur, que incluyen el despliegue de 750 oficiales y el endurecimiento de las políticas contra migrantes.
La secretaria de Seguridad Nacional estadounidense, Kirstjen Nielsen, emitió un memorándum dirigido al Comisionado de Aduanas y Protección de Fronteras (CBP, por sus siglas en inglés), Kevin McAleenan, con los nuevos pasos para combatir la creciente crisis humanitaria y de seguridad en la frontera sur con México.
“La crisis en nuestra frontera está empeorando y el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS, por sus siglas en inglés) hará todo lo que esté a su alcance para ponerle fin. No nos quedaremos de brazos cruzados mientras el Congreso no vuelva a actuar, por lo que todas las opciones están sobre la mesa”, indicó.
Nielsen instruyó al comisionado del CBP que de inmediato prepare la redistribución de hasta 750 oficiales a los sectores de la Patrulla Fronteriza por la emergencia ante el incremento ante la afluencia de migrantes.
“Inmediatamente redistribuiremos a cientos del personal del CBP en la frontera para responder a esta emergencia. Buscaremos urgentemente refuerzos adicionales dentro de DHS y la interagencia”, manifestó.
De acuerdo con las instrucciones, McAleenan también deberá evaluar si es necesario desplazar un mayor número de personas y, en dado caso, notificar al Departamento de Seguridad si se requieren más de dos mil oficiales.
Agregó que también se expandirá la política para devolver a los migrantes centroamericanos a México mientras esperan la respuesta a sus solicitudes de asilo.
Dicha medida, indicó, implicará devolver cientos de migrantes adicionales por día, por encima de las tasas actuales.
Nielsen afirmó que el DHS hará todo lo que esté a su alcance para poner fin a la crisis en la frontera sur de Estados Unidos.
El Departamento de Seguridad anunció dichas medidas después de que el presidente Donald Trump advirtió la semana pasada que si México no detiene el flujo de migrantes ilegales, cerrará la frontera.
